ENRICHED WITH NATURAL ELEMENTS
In conjunction with our predominantly natural and organic ingredient list, we integrate a small selection of naturally derived elements. Though not entirely natural, these ingredients are carefully selected for their safety and efficacy, upholding the highest standards of quality across all our products.
DISODIUM EDTA & TETRASODIUM EDTA
These ingredients serve as chelating agents in our skincare line, helping to bind with metals that might be present in water and other components. This prevents any potential spoilage or harm to your skin, while enhancing the foaming and cleaning capabilities of our products. Rest assured, these ingredients have been rigorously tested and approved for cosmetic use by authorities like the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel.
PHENOXYETHANOL
As a preservative in our skincare products, Phenoxyethanol is essential for maintaining freshness and extending shelf-life by preventing bacterial growth. Its gentle yet effective nature makes it an ideal choice, and it has been deemed safe for cosmetic use at concentrations of up to 1% by regulatory bodies, including the European Union.
TRIETHANOLAMINE
Primarily serving as a pH adjuster, Triethanolamine ensures the stability and performance of our products on your skin. It also acts as an emulsifier, harmonizing water-soluble and oil-soluble ingredients. Our selection of Triethanolamine aligns with the safety standards defined by the CIR Expert Panel when used in low concentrations.
PROPYLENE GLYCOL
In our skincare range, Propylene Glycol functions as a humectant, helping to lock in moisture by reducing water evaporation. This key ingredient contributes to keeping your skin hydrated and supple, and its safety is reaffirmed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which classifies it as generally safe for use in food. This underlines its suitability for skincare applications.
PROHIBITED INGREDIENTS
At Koru Beauty, we vehemently oppose harsh chemicals and harmful additives. Banned substances like parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and formaldehyde are rigorously omitted from all our formulations.
PARABENS
Parabens function as preservatives in a wide range of items including foods, cosmetics, and drugs to prevent product deterioration. Scientific concern has arisen regarding parabens' potential to disrupt the endocrine system, as they may act as endocrine disruptors. This concern stems from their chemical structure, which bears similarities to some natural hormones.
SULFATES
Sulfates, such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), are common surfactants found in various personal care and cleaning products. These compounds produce lather and are efficient at removing dirt and oil. However, some individuals may experience skin irritation or dryness as a result of their use. Despite this, scientific evidence linking sulfates directly to long-term adverse health effects in the general population remains limited.
PHTHALATES
Phthalates are chemical compounds often used to soften and increase the flexibility of plastics. In cosmetic products, they are used to improve fragrance and color stability. Concerns have been raised about their potential to interfere with the body's hormone function. While studies have shown certain phthalates to have adverse effects in animal models, their implications for human health are still under investigation.
FORMALDEHYDE
Formaldehyde is a naturally occurring metabolite in all mammals and is also present in some formaldehyde-releasing ingredients utilized as preservatives in various products. In the United States, it is classified as a known human carcinogen. Parabens, meanwhile, serve as preservatives in an array of items such as foods, cosmetics, and drugs to forestall product spoilage. There is a growing concern within the scientific community that parabens might disrupt the endocrine system due to their potential to act as endocrine disruptors.
MINERAL OIL
Mineral oil is a common ingredient found in various skincare products. Derived from petroleum, it acts as an occlusive agent, forming a barrier on the skin to lock in moisture. However, it may potentially clog pores and cause skin issues for some individuals. At Koru Beauty, we've chosen to avoid mineral oil, opting for alternative, more natural ingredients for our products to ensure the health and well-being of your skin.
